Talisman - The Magical Quest Game has been enticing gamers since 1983, and this latest revised 4th edition has beautifully upgraded components with all the adventure and appeal of the original. 18 plastic figures replace the stand-ups from the last edition, and a new section of Alternative Rules For Speedy Play helps condense a normal 4-hour game time to around 90 minutes. Whichever rules you adopt, the object and mechanics are the same. You control a Character with unique abilities, and move about the board encountering Characters, Objects, Monsters, and other surprises. Gain treasure as you build up Strength, Craft, and Lives--and find the Talisman that will allow you to pass through the Valley of Fire and reach the Crown of Command.

±8± Best Buy The board game "Talisman" has a well deserved reputation as one of the best fantasy board games ever. I'm an avid fan since picking up the Second Edition Boxset in the late 1980s, and I could not even imagine how many hours I have spent vying for the crown of the rule. I still have all the Second Edition, from the dungeon and City to the Cape Times and dragons, including the cut-out characters from Games Workshop White Dwarf "magazine.
Since I'm original so much love, (I ignored the third edition, tried update things to the game more in line with role-plays, including things like make "Experience Points" and joining Talisman further to the Games Workshop Warhammer universe. ") it has me for a while on this fourth edition of giving" to try to Talisman. Finally, I gave him a chance at a local gaming convention and was again suspended.

This fourth edition is a fundamental "If it is not broke, do not fix it"Access to this classic board game hold, Second Edition is essentially intact, but the introduction of some of the better fixes from the Third Edition. The board itself is identical, although enlarged and updated graphics. The card text is virtually unchanged (including characters that "trot out of the discard pile"), although none of the original technology was maintained.

Probably the most important change was "Life" is a variable start number, such as starch and crafts. Some of theCharacters start with five (warrior) or even six (Troll) life instead of the usual four. The prophet, one of the most powerful figures in the Second Edition, has been de-powered a bit. You can now drag the map, and chose either to keep or discard the map and drag it to another, they must encounter. That was a nice edition, as in the old version, the prophet was so powerful, it was boring to play. An additional element called "fate counter" has been added to allow forthe cold rolling of a single chip, if you pay a counter. Craft-be-defeated monsters cashed in now in the same manner as a strength against monsters.

Fantasy Flight Games a great job with the production values of this version has done, "Talisman". Apart from the updated graphics, the counters are all hard plastic with the strength, craft and life counters, colored cones that come in 1-count and 5-count versions. The cards are mounted on cardboard, which will lastspill by repeated mixing and alcohol. Really, all gone through a major upgrade.

If I had any disappointments with this fourth edition, they are insignificant. The game board itself is too large, and my whole kitchen table, which means that when I pick up possible future extensions (of which I hope there will be many after Reaper, the Dungeonand Frost March) I have to move on the ground in a room to play big enough.

I would alsoappreciate it if Fantasy Flight had a balanced sex ration of characters during the commissioning of new artwork. This was something that was not me, unless I play with my wife to play a female character and all that was available, the witch and the prophet would have noticed. Several characters could, like Assassin, the Thief, the warrior, elf, etc. .. been made easy without the female gameplay in any way in the work of art.

I have greatHopes for the new fourth edition of "Talisman" and hope that great things come from. I would love to appear some old favorites, such as the "Champion of Chaos" and the "Horrible Black Void", together with some new ideas and enhancements.
